1. I will be volunteering at Chestnut Hill Lodge, which is a nursing home. I will work with the director of activities, Cara Broidrick and be with the residents at the home.
2. I hope that I will get a better understanding of nursing homes, and elders. I want to talk to the residents, see what they do on a daily basis, and see what I can do to help. This will relate to my topic because it was give me the knowledge I need to talk about nursing homes. Hopefully my expierence there will help not only me, but the residents. I also want to know how they feel about self euthanasia, and talk about Jack Kevorkian, who is a known Doctor for helping assist suicides, over 130. I want to know how a different age group feels about this topic, because I know how I feel about Jack Kevorkian and his beliefs.
3. To complete my project I will serve 30 hours volunteering. I already made prior arrangements and talked to the activities director, who is allowing me to complete my project. I hope to also make an animoto, and maybe a timeline to show visuals of what I've learned, and gathered from spending time there. If not a timeline, then a video about it. There is no set date nor time when I will be volunteering, I will go when I have time, and it will mostly be on weekends.
4. To complete my project I'm going to need to devote 30 hours. The materials I might need would be a camera, for pictures, and the internet for research, as well as uploading.
Jenna--I think you will enjoy your time in the activities department. I am excited to hear about your experience!
Research:
1. My topic is on elders and their life, I want to know their opinions about life, and their beliefs on Jack Kevorkian. My topic will be about Dr. Jack Kevorkian and self euthanasia.
2. Why is self euthanasia so bad?
3. I have expierence with working with elders, because I already work at this nursing home, and love working with elders. As far as Jack Kevorkian, I have seen his movie, as well as his own documentary, and articles he has been interviewed on. I respect him as not only a doctor, but a person and I can't wait to learn more about this man.
4. Who will benefit from this? Hopefully teens my age won't be quick to judge elders, and elders won't be quick to judge teens. Nobody knows what it's like to be someone else, so people have to stop judging and making assumptions about people. Also, I want people to gain a better understanding of life, and know that it isn't a game and not something to play around with. I want people to understand that life is more than what you have, but it's who you have to share it with, also I don't want people to take their life for granted.
5. a) "You Don't Know Jack" This is an HBO movie that aired almost a year ago. It is reliable because it has actual events and actual topics that Dr. Jack Kevorkian has talked about. Also, Jack Kevorkian agreed to the movie and said that it was acurate.
b) "Assisted Suicide" This book has many topics about assisted suicide. It talks about Chrsitian beliefs, Jack Kevorkians beliefs, and the publics beliefs on euthanasia. This has really helped me in my research because it has allowed me to get many opinions. It is reliable because Jack Kevorkian writes in it, as well as priests, and other doctors.
c) "Jack Kevorkian" This is a documentart on HBO that follows Dr. Jack Kevorkian and his life. It allows the viewer to really get to know Jack, aka, Dr. Death. He talks about his expierence, as well does his family, jail cell mate, clients, patients, lawyer, and many other important people in his life. This is very reliable because it is the real Jack Kevorkain, and it's an acutal documentary with real footage and it shows who he really is.
